ANNUAL REPORT 2013-2014
Distinguished Chief guest Mr. U. T. Khader,The Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Guest of Honor Mr. Valerian Almaida, respected members of the teaching and non-teaching fraternity, our proud parents, Ladies and gentlemen, Media Persons and my dear students, it is my privilege to present the 134th Annual report of this historic educational Institution.
We have 819 students in the School. The month of June saw the students’ council election for the year 2013–2014 where in, Master Vaibhav Devadiga was elected as SPL, Bernard D’Cunha as ASPL and Prashobitha as Secretary. The student council is consisting of class and club representatives.
Every week the school assembly is convened to accolade our achievers and to provide a platform for our students in public speaking in the form of news reading and the thought for the day and thus to revive their sense of duty towards themselves and the school.
In the April 2013 S.S.L.C. examination 96% came out successful.
Master.ShubhamR. Vernekar of the English Medium with 97.28% and Miss NilishaAngelinD’souza of Kannada Medium with92% were the Top Scorers at the Diocesan Catechism Examination. Miss.NilishaAngelinD’souzaexcels in Konkani and Master.Carlton Alec Saldanhain English. While in the Moral Science Examination, Mohammed Shakeer and Anson Sunil Huns were toppers of the Kannada and English Medium respectively. We appreciate the sincere efforts of the students, the hard work of our teachers and the constant support of the parents.

- Mr. U. Gopal Krishna Bhat English and Biology Teacher, with 36 yearsand 11 months service.
- Mr. George Lobo with 33 years and 3 months as a supporting staff.
I wish to place on record with gratitude their services rendered to this Institution.
- Mrs. Sheryl Prabhu attended a five day English enrichment programme and analysis of Social Science text book for the coming year.
- Mr. LancyD’souza attended a three day English writing skills seminar conducted by the Department of Education.
- Mrs. Felcy Pinto attended the Self-Composed Konkani Poetry recitation program. It also was broadcast by All-India-RadioMangalore-Station.
- Mr. Mohan Raj has completed his Diploma in Bharathanatyam from Mangalore University and had staged a dance presentation “Margam”on April 21 at BharathiyaVidyaBhavanPandeshwar.
- John Chandranourdrawing teacher is an artist for the school text books that is DSERT, Bangalore. He has also participated in the award ceremony organized by Google India.
- On the 150th birthday of Swami Vivekananda, there was a Workshop on Value Inculcation for high school teachers held at Ramakrishna Math at Mangaladevi on 20th September, 2013, Mr. John Chandran and Mr. Santhosh Lobo attended the same.

National Level Inspire Award in Science competition-
We are proud to announce Miss NilishaAngelinD’souza of 10thStdkannada medium who was selected for the Nationals has participated in the national level inspire award science competition held at Delhi in October.
In the Doodledfor Google competition AkashShetty of Std 10th, was one of the four finalist, among the 1.5 lakh child artist prodigies of India.He came out a National Winner in HighSchool LevelDoodledfor Google Design Contest organized by Google India Ltd, New Delhi. Not only has he,a flair with the paint brush but also has a flair with words. He excels in academics too.
Abhishek M.B. of Std. 10 is the recipient of the KalashreeAward,which was conferred on him by Mr. HamsarajBaradwaaj, Governor of Karnataka, Women and ChildWelfare Minister, Mrs. Umashreepresided over the ceremony. Singing is his passion, be it folk or patriotic. The flute is his armour, equipped with both he has won several competition like:
- 2nd place in SwaraSangiviniSangeethaSabha Patriotic singing.
- 1st place at ShriNarayanaGuruvarya’s 158th birthday Folk Singing.
- 2ndplaceinCostal Singing Poet’s AssociationPatriotic singing.
- 1st place in Saroginimadhu collegepatriotic singing.
Sports and Games:
Rules, regulations and complete knowledge on Athletics, Chess, Basketball, Football, Handball,Kho-Kho,Volleyballare imparted by Mr. Praveen Lobo and Mr. Noel Menezesto the students on field and off field. To check out their proficiency, they participate and compete at the School, Taluk, District, State And National Level Meets. Students aretrained in the sports of their choice during vacation.
Co-curricular activities :
For the all-round development of a child learning through experience builds confidence . For this the various clubs provide abundant opportunities. Mr. CamilRebellocoordinates the club activities along with the club coordinators.
The N.C.C troop of our school, comprises of 120 cadets. Besides regular parades our senior cadets participated in hosting Anti-Tobacco rally and cancer awareness programmes.
Our flight Sergeant Sourav, AnirudhShetty and Santhosh participated in Kannada Rajyotsava Parade held at Nehru Maidan. At our Annual Sports Meet the N.C.C troop was well appreciated by the M.L.C Capt. Ganesh Karnik for the perfect march past and magnificent Silent Drill. The troop is well- coordinated by Mr. Sunil RohanLoboand Mr.KaushikPayal.
Loyola Scout Troop:
Mr. GopalKrishna (scout master) for which enhance their scounting skills and carry out social work and be good citizen of tomorrow with the help Master Bernard NehalD’cunha is the Troop Leader and is assisted by Rakshith, Denzil and Deekshith.MohammedSahil completed his “ThrithiyaSopan”(third year of dedicated service) in scouting. Many activities were conducted like Troop Wide games, Estimation, Wood-Crafts , Knots ,Gadgets using strave and rope etc which developed the skills of the scout troop.
Science Academy Club:
Science academy awakes the curiosity of students through Experiments, quiz, demonstrations, discussions,debates.Sakshath of 10thE the President along with other clubs members presented the ‘Opticart Show’at the clubs inaugural. On the occasion of Independence Day, a Science Model competition was held in the school. At the Taluk level science model competition conducted by the Education Department, Adith D’Souza and Mohammed Sharief of 9thStd bagged first place in ‘Resources’ category and Deepthi Furtado bagged second place in the ‘Innovation of Science and Maths’ category. Mr. Donald and Ms. Wilma Bareto co-ordinate these activities.
Under the leadership of Mr. Norbert Miranda the inner most talents of its members are brought to light though a skit ‘Mahamaari’ staged during the feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga. ‘Kareyole’ a skit staged at the inaugural. And today later this evening you will witness them at their best.
Kannada Sahithya Sanaga:
In July under the leadership of Mangalore taluk’sChutuku Association and, Sujaya V. Shettyof our school organized a ChutukuKavighoshtiand N. SubrayaBhat was the resource person on that day. An essay competition, on august 15th aKavighostiwere the other activities.Venkatesh K. M, the President and Prajna M. Rao, the secretary under the guidance of Sir GunajeRamachandraBhat and Mrs. MalathiBhat, motivate and guide the students interested in kannada poetry.Mr G.R Bhat participated in the State Level ChutukuKavighosti held in Mangalore on 24th November and received a Memento and Certificate of Excellence.
Rev. Fr. John Crasta SJ and Scholastic Ryan Rodrigues, provide spiritual guidance to its 78 members. Mr. Santhosh Lobo the coordinator of the club is assisted by Stephen Veigas. the President. 25 of its members staged a drama “David and Goliath” at the Inaugural. A quiz competition was heldto commemorate the feast of St. Ignatiusof Loyola. Novena prayers were offered with flowers for nine days before the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Meaningful Christmas programme and carol singing is organized during Christmas time. The members serve at the Altar of the Chapel.A Cricket and Football match for its members was also held. A visit to an orphanage is yet to happen. All the members draw inspiration from St. John Berchamans.
Board of Directors were elected and ShravanKini,SathvikMayya were elected as President and Secretary respectively. Mrs. Felcy Pinto co-ordinates its various activities.Experts from various fields acted as a Beacon to all the 10 std students in light of their Carrier.Children’s Day was celebrated with an essay competition.The Rotary Club Mangaloreorganized anessay and quiz competitions at Canara High School Dongerkeryand our Members participated wholeheartedly.
The Philately Club:
The Philately club has many budding numismatists and philatelists. Mrs. Sheryl Prabhuis assisted by club president RynelD’silva. ThroughPower point presentation, videos and exhibits on coins and stamps knowledge is imparted.
On the occasion of the feast of St.Aloysius Gonzagaa Painting competitions, on Independence Daya Collage competition, during Deepavali a Rangoli Competition were organized.A special workshop on clay modeling was taken up. The Art club members participated in Kudla Kala Mela a State level painting exhibition held at Kadri Park..Prajwal B.K won 1st place in theDist level drawing competition by Nalanda School. He also won the 1st place at Kobe sizzlers, City centrealong with Greeshalwho won the 2nd place. in Face Painting Competition organized by 4c, MangaloreHarsharaj won the 1st place.In District level competition organized by Manipal School, Ashlin,Ajesh and Avinash won the 1st place in Collage making,AshishShetty and ShreyasSecured the 1st Place In Advertisement Design Contest.AkashShetty Won 1stthe Place in the Drawing Competition at KMC’s World Hearts Day andPrathibaKaranjihe is also the NATIONAL Winner of Google Design Competition, DOODLED FOR GOOGLE.
Under thedirection of Mr. Praveen Monterio the members put up a skit in Konkani at its clubinaugural. Competition such as Hand-writing, singing, collage makingare organized to enable the children to cherish and enrich their mother tongue Konkani.
Mr. Praveen Cutinha is assisted by Kishore of 10 E2 the president, Darshith of 8th E2 the wise president and Joyalof 8th D the secretary. Vanamahotsava Day was celebrated in July with the theme “HasiruUllisiNaaduBelesi” The Forest Department provided with saplings which weredistributed to all the school children.
The Gavel club exclusively develops communication skills, public speaking and soft skills through debate, elocution and extempore competitions duringtheir regular meetings which are properly evaluated. On the occasion of All Clubs inauguration,House Inauguration, Patrons Day, Annual Sports meet and Annual School Day, the members of the club serve as masters of ceremony,under the able guidance of Mr. LANCY D’SOUZA.
The following members won various prizes in the Inter-School Competition:

- Bagged the first place in debate competition at “impulse-13” a district level fest organized by hisrar events and celebration.
- Secondplace in a debate competition (SathyaMevaJayate) at “swades’13” an inter school competition organized by foresee.
- Participated in verb battle a national level debate fest and is selected for the state level.
* Sheldon D’silva bagged the first place in extempore at BharatiyaVidya Bhavana-13 a talent fest.
* SachinD’souza secured the first place in elocution at the cluster level “PrathibaKaranji” and is selected for thetaluk level.
“Aware-Alert-Act” is the motto of the consumer club. A skit ‘JaagoGrahakJaago’was put up at the Inaugural. Competition on essay writing and poster making on the topic ‘The Role of Students eradicating corruption’ were conducted.Information on “Food Adulteration”, quality control agencies, cheating through weights and measureswere imparted to the students which was directed by the coordinator Mr. Francis. D. Mascharenas, assisted by PresidentSurendra of 10th, Vice-president Sanjay Aditya of 10thand SecretaryShravan of 9th
Several Quiz and debates were organised under the co-ordination of Ms. Jovita D’Souza with Wayne Martis and RynelD’Silva as President and Secretary respectively. INTER-HOUSE QUIZ-2013 was organised along with the I.T club and Science academy.
Wayne Martis and RynelD’Silva bagged the second place at the “Silver Jubilee Quiz” held at Besant High School. They secured the third place at the “Info USA quiz”, ‘JoylandAnveshan quiz Contest’ and “World’s Environment day quiz -2013”
- Wayne Martis, RynelD’Silva and Savin D’Souza secured third place at the ‘Foresee SochBharathSoch” quiz contest.
- Wayne Martis, RynelD’Silva, Savin D’Souza and Jelwin Rodrigueswere winners at the “PrathibhaKaranje quiz competitionand are selected for thetaluk level.
- Savin D’Souza bagged the first place in “Criquest” held at M.Chinnaswamystadium, Bangalore organized by Association of cricket empires, Karnataka.
The Dance Club adds Charm, colour, expression, styleto every programme in the form of folk, eastern, western and contemporary danceis fused by Mr Mohan Raj, our dynamic dancer and asisstedby , Mrs. Diana Goveas and Mrs. Shalma Saldana.A Bollywood-fusion was put upat theClub inaugural.A dance based on Shrigasarasawas put up at “pre-unique”. On the occasion of the Karnataka Rajyothsava170 students added colour at the Nehru Maidan on KANNADA NUDUtheme.
Mrs. Linet Mathias, Mrs. Sunitha, Mr. Santhosh Lobo, are the force behind the club, they impart knowledge on the latest technology, gaming and operating systems. They are assisted by Osman D’silva as President, Shawn Blaze as Vice President, SiddeshMaradi as secretary and ShravanKini as Photographer. A quiz competition was organized along with Science club and Quiz club. An animation seminar by SanthoshNotekar, Head of Animation Department in St. Aloysius College was conducted. Using the software ‘SCRATCH’ P.A College of Engineering organized an animation competition in which Master Ronan and Reece of Std 8th E, bagged the third place.
The Melodious voices are natured under by Mrs. Renny Vas. Brandon Elroy Braganza of Std 10th as President and Megha of Std 9th as Secretary assist here. In singing competitions organized by Impulse, Raaga Taranga, SarojiniMadusudan Kala Utsav, Narayan Guru and Geetanjaliour the group bagged the 1stplace, and in Kalotsava at the town hall , KaravaliSangeetaVokkoota they bagged the 2nd place and in SwadesAntakshari the 3rd place at 4C. VijethUllal of Std 8th also won 1st place for the folk song won and 2nd place for hisBhavageete at the above mentioned competitions and also got selected in the state-level competitions. Megha of Std 9th won the 1st place at Nalanda, PratibhaKaranji and at Geetanjali she won the 3rd Place along with Brandon Braganza of Std 10th who won the certificate of merit for category - filmy singing. Ashlesh of std 9th won the 1st place at the PrathibaKaranji, Siddhivinayaka and Ganeshotsava. Abhishek MB of Std10th was awarded the KALASHREE AWARD for his excellence in playing the flute.
THE SAC BAND:
There is Nothing like a good school band that injects the spirit of life into every event. Be it school day, Sports Day, College Day, etc. Under the charge of Mr. Adolf Lobo, 29 are trained in the use of various instruments Fr. John CrastaSJ also co-ordinates the band group.
Mr. Praveen Lobo and Mr. Noel Menezes the coordinators, teach the importance of health. Through videos clipping and picture postcards diseases such Malaria, chikungunya, Dengue which become rampant through mosquitoes are made known to the students. The adverse effects of bad habits are also brought to light.
Mid day Meals: Under the AksharaDaasoha scheme more than 700 students receive mid-day meals, it is further supplemented with additional items from the mid-day meal fund.
Remedial Teaching: has been organized for slow learners after the school hours. As a result they have shown remarkable improvement academically. We sincerely appreciate the efforts of our teachers for giving the students the required guidance, support and encouragement.
A special counseling session was held for girls by Dr. (Mrs.) Judy Pinto the Vice-Principal of our Degree college.
Digi- Class electronic boards make learning interesting and effective are in progress.
Education Programme with the Deccan- Herald , has heightened the awareness of students in current affairs.
C.C.T.V cameras have been installed in every classroom for better supervision and safety of the students. It helps the authorities to keep an eye on the trespassers who enter into the campus, corridors and the classrooms.
Interlocks have been laid near the chapel side quadrangle.
Pure drinking water tanks for the school have been donated by the batch of ’69. We thank them for their generosity, God bless them all.
Headmaster’s chamber has been updated with modern amenities.
1. The Hindu had organized a quiz show, It was both educational as well as entertaining.
2. The teacher’s day celebration put up by the Student council made the teachers feel special. the PTA members organized a programmer for the teachers with games, entertainment and a sumptuous dinner.
3. Children’s Day: Games were conducted for the students. And the teachers put up a spectacular dance programme with the coordination of Mr. Mohan raj. Songs and jokes were also part of the programme.
4. A career guidance programme was arranged for students of Class X by Interact club along with Rotary club midtown. In the field of Science by HarshaKansagar, an old student of this school who is an engineer in the Kochi Refineries. In the field of Commerce by Mr.ChandrakanthRao, a chartered accountant.
5. Tour’s :An educational tour was organized for the students of 10th to Ooty, Coonur, Coimbatore for the English medium and Mysore & Bangalore for the Kannada medium.
6. Sport’s Day: This year’s sports Day was a grand success with Capt. Ganesh Karnik M .L.C. Govt of Karnataka as the chief guest at the opening ceremony and Sri Nitin J. Shetty C. a Alumnus of our Institution, as the chief guest at the closing . The students got a chance to exhibit their skills in the field of athletics. The Mass Drill, March Past and the silent drill of the NCC cadets added grandeur to the show.
Parents the pillar of strength affirm their support constantly. Mr. VinodD’suoza the Vice president along with the executive members celebrated the Teacher’s Day in a befitting manner honoring the teachers and appreciating their services. I wish to thank Mrs. Pamela Alva the former Vice-President and other outgoing members for their support and continuous services.
Let me conclude by taking this opportunity to thank all those who have lent me a helping hand in making this year a memorable and a meaningful one. My gratitude goes to, all those who are present here today to share our joy and to be a part of the ongoing process of education. We are committed in building our students as “people for others” who will grow into young men and women, not only of High Educational Caliber but also as good human persons contributing constructively to the Society.
We look to our patron, St. Aloysius, who stands tall as a supreme example of selfless service and we thank Almighty God for all His gifts, graces and blessings.
