Sports Day-2019



Held on November 22, 2019 at the Gonzaga
Stadium, the Annual Athletics Meet began with the March Past by students in
their House Colours followed by the 2 wings of the NCC to the tunes played by
the School Band. The event was hosted by two teachers, Mr. Lancy D’Souza and
Mrs. Felcy Lobo, and ably assisted by 2 students. The Melody Club members
trained by Mrs. Renny Vaz led the gathering of the Guests of Honour, parents,
teaching and non-teaching staff, and students into prayer. Rev. Fr. Gerard
Furtado, SJ, our Headmaster of the School, welcomed the gathering. The School
Sports flag was hoisted by Mr. Ravi Narayan Kandige, General Manager, Food
Craft, Mangalore. A successful school alumnus of the 1969 batch, the Chief Guest
exhorted the students not to lose heart and also to always keep trying in life.
He then declared the Athletics Meet open. Ms. Rekha Fernandes, the Vice-
President of the P.T.A., and Ms. Philomena Lewis, the Headmistress of the
primary school, were also present on the dais. After the release of  the House colour balloons and the oath taking
ceremony, Master Zain Mohammed, the SPL, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The
winners of the various sporting events were felicitated with certificates and
medals. The finals of some track and field events were held.

The Closing Ceremony was presided over by
Dr. Abraham Zacharias, another illustrious alumnus of the 1969 batch, and
presently the Managing Director of St. George Homeopathic Clinic and Pharmacy,
Mangalore. Mr. Gopal Krishna S., our Asst. Headmaster, welcomed the gathering.
The finals of the 200 meters race in the Intermediate Boys’ category were held
followed by an interesting game of Musical Chairs for parents and teachers, and
prizes awarded to the winners. Under the instructions of the P. T. Teacher, Mr.
Noel Menezes, the students presented a mass drill to the tunes of the Band. The
NCC Air Wing cadets showcased their skill at performing a silent drill under
the leadership of Master Skanda Mayya to the amazement of all, and ended their
display with a spectacular march to the tune of “Saare Jahan Se Achcha”. The
Chief Guest called on the children to obey their parents and teachers, strive
to do good, keep faith in God, and pay attention to their health. The
Individual Championship and Overall Championship prizes were given away by the
Chief Guest. Miss Nanditha S., the Asst. S. P. L. proposed the Vote of Thanks.
Finally, the Sports Flag was lowered to the tune of “Abide with me”, and the
Meet declared closed. The entire gathering sang the National Anthem with great
fervour as a mark of respect to our beloved Motherland. The collective efforts
of the Headmaster, the Asst. Headmaster, the PT teacher, other teachers,
non-teaching staff, and most importantly, the students made the sporting event
a memorable one.
